Greene Construction of Big Sky, Inc. is a custom home building company. Greene Construction’s goal is to build clients quality
homes, constructed in a timely manner and within budget while helping to guide the client through the process so the end
result is a positive experience for all.
The company is owned and run by Josh and Debby Greene. Josh is a hands-on construction contractor who is the on-site
force behind the careful crafting of each individual home. Josh and his crew of highly experienced carpenters ensure
that only quality craftsmanship is being used to build each home. That means that the crew that begins building your
house will be the same crew used for all phases of construction. Rather than subcontract all phases of the job, Greene
Construction, Inc. crews frame and side the home as well as handle the interior trim work. The results are well-built
homes that stay within agreed upon budgets prior to beginning construction.
Greene Construction, Inc. works closely with the architect hopefully from the inception of the home and always throughout
the construction process. Greene Construction, Inc. has relationships with reliable, reputable subcontractors to handle
other aspects of the job and Josh Greene supervises these crews to the full extent.
In Summer 2006, Big Sky Magazine did a feature story about an environmentally friendly home built by Greene
Construction. Read the complete article here

Greene Construction Achieves Leadership in Energy
and Environmental Design (LEED)
AP Accreditation from United States Green Building Council (USGBC)
Big Sky, Montana -- Josh Greene and Cristofer J. Heiny of Greene Construction of Big Sky, Inc. both received their Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) accreditation from the United States Greene Building Council (USGBC) this past fall. Greene is owner of Greene Construction, a building company in Big Sky, Montana. Heiny is a project foreman for the company. Greene Construction plans to break ground on the company’s first registered LEED project, the Lone Peak Physical Therapy building, in the Meadow Village this spring. The building was designed by LEED accredited professional Reid Smith Architects.
Greene Construction joins the ranks of a handful of construction companies in Montana with LEED certified builders. According to the USGBC web site, the LEED Green Building Rating System encourages and accelerates global adoption of sustainable green building and is a nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings.
Greene, Heiny and fellow employee Dan Cantrell traveled to Jackson Hole, Wyoming in October to attend a special LEED building seminar led by LEED pioneer Kath Williams to help them attain their LEED certification. After studying the LEED guidelines, they took the LEED accreditation test in Helena which consisted of 80 questions on sustainable building practices.
“I’ve constructed homes in Big Sky for 10 years and I got interested in green building after seeing the waste and inefficiency that goes into new construction. I knew there had to be a more sustainable way to build and began exploring options offered by the United States Green Building Council. Studying for and learning LEED practices gives me more tools to help construct homes and buildings for my clients that encourage healthy living conditions, less power usage and less waste.”
The USGBC website states that LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.
Greene is also secretary of a core group of building industry professionals in Bozeman who are starting a USGBC chapter in Southwest Montana.
To receive a LEED certification a structure must comply with the LEED guidelines. Ratings are ranked in order and include certified, bronze, silver, gold or platinum. Bozeman Public Library has a silver LEED certification.
